Terms of Use

Last updated: 13 July 2026

The short version

Spindl is a reading tracker made by one person. Use it for tracking your reading. Your books, journal entries, and notes are yours. Premium is a paid subscription handled by Apple. Don't use the app to do anything illegal, and don't try to break it for other people.

Who's behind this

Spindl is operated by Stormlight Archive Ltd, a UK company. When these terms say 'I' or 'me', that's Mikey, the person who built and runs Spindl. You can reach me at hello@spindlreads.com.

Your account

You need an account (Apple, Google, or email sign-in) for your reading data to sync between devices. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure. You can delete your account at any time from Settings inside the app — that permanently removes your data.

Your content

Everything you put into Spindl — books on your shelves, reading sessions, journal entries, notes, highlights, uploaded covers — belongs to you. I claim no ownership over any of it. I only store and sync it so the app works. You can export the lot to CSV, PDF, or markdown whenever you like.

Premium subscriptions

Spindl Premium is available as a monthly (£2.99) or annual (£19.99) auto-renewing subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase (£49.99, limited to the first 500 readers). Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings. Prices may vary by region; the App Store shows the exact price before you confirm.

Refunds

Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. I can't issue refunds directly, but if something went wrong, email me and I'll help you sort it with Apple.

Acceptable use

Don't attempt to gain unauthorised access to Spindl's servers or other users' data, don't reverse-engineer the service to harm it, and don't use the app for anything unlawful. That's the whole list.

Service availability

Spindl is built and run by one person. I aim to keep it running well, but I can't promise uninterrupted availability. The app is designed to keep working offline — your data lives on your device first and syncs when it can.

If Spindl shuts down

If I ever have to close Spindl down, I'll ship a full export tool first — for free and paid users both — before anything goes offline. Same commitment as in the privacy policy.

Liability

Spindl is provided 'as is'. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Stormlight Archive Ltd isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in any meaningful way, the app will tell you before the change takes effect. Continued use after that means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
